The Murtić Foundation is based on the tangible and intangible legacy of Edo Murtić.
Edo Murtić (1921-2005) shaped and marked the cultural life of Croatia and the region in the second half of the 20th century with his painting endeavour and prominent artistic personality.
Owing to his continuous evolution inspired by the study visits to France, Italy and the USA, as well as contacts with leading world post-war artists, Murtić’s early figurative painting gradually transformed into a particular variation of abstract painting characterised by expressive gestures, lyrical impulse and prominent colourism.
Edo Murtić presented his work at more than three hundred independent and as many group exhibitions across all continents, including notable performances at the Venice Biennale.
